Eligibility To Become an IRS Officer

  1. Educational Qualifications Required: to be eligible for the IRS office, one must possess a bachelor’s degree from an Indian university or any equivalent qualification. They also need to sit for the UPSC examination.
  2. Age: candidates must be over 20 years of age, and the maximum limit is 30 years to sit for the examination.
  3. Other Conditions: the candidate must be a citizen of India or a subject of Nepal or Bhutan.

Steps To Become an IRS Officer

To become an IRS officer, one has to follow the below steps:

Step 1

The first step is to fill up the application form and procure the information brochure from post offices spread throughout the country, and send the filled application form to the Union Public Service Commission.

Step 2

The next step is to take the preliminary examinations in May or June. The papers are general studies and one optional paper which can be chosen from a wide variety of subjects.

Step 3

The candidates who qualify in the preliminary examination then have to take the final exam, usually held in October. The final exam has the following papers:

  1. 1 Essay Type Indian Language Qualifying Paper
  2. 1 English Qualifying Paper
  3. 1 General Essay type Paper
  4. 2 General Studies Paper
  5. 4 Optional Subject Papers.

Step 4

Once the final examination is over, one must go to the last stage, which is the interview. Most aspirants are grilled in this interview to understand their personality and mental ability thoroughly. The irs officer salary is extremely exciting in case a candidate gets through.
