Why is the UPSC exam considered tough?

Before preparing for UPSC, most candidates have this question: ‘ Is UPSC tough?’ yes, UPSC is one of the most challenging civil service exams. However, this toughness does not make it unmanageable. On the contrary, it is 100% doable, provided you follow the right strategy to prepare. UPSC’s full form is the Union Public Service Commission.

Why is the UPSC exam considered tough?

There are various reasons why UPSC aspirants consider the IAS exam to be a tough nut to crack. The first reason UPSC candidates fear choosing the IAS exam to build their career is its less pass percentage. Every year, lakhs and lakhs of candidates appear for the UPSC exam. But, of them, only 0.2% of the candidates make it to securing a position as an IAS officer.

Most candidates have to appear for the UPSC exam more than once. As a result, candidates have to lose a few years. This is what most candidates dislike. Besides, candidates are unsure whether they will be able to pass the UPSC Prelims or Mains or the interview round at one go. Therefore, all they need to do is wait for the following year.

Another significant reason UPSC candidates consider the IAS exam one of the most challenging civil service exams is its syllabus. There is no denying that the UPSC syllabus is massive. To ace the syllabus, you need professional guidance who can provide you with a strategy to follow. Unfortunately, not all IAS aspirants can afford to catch hold of professional IAS coaching classes, especially if they are working professionals.

Due to the humongous syllabus, the IAS aspirants fail to complete the syllabus on time. Therefore, writing good answers in the UPSC exam is impossible without proper revision. Writing good answers is a skill that most UPSC candidates need to master. Besides, this takes time.

Above all, the UPSC candidates have to own some leadership qualities and administrative skills for the interview round. Besides, the IAS aspirants should also learn to face pressurized situations and know to handle them.

Conclusion :

Now that you know the challenges of becoming an IAS officer, it will be easier to prepare well. You can plan strategies and develop your personality
