Eligibility Criteria For Indian Foreign Service Exam

 The IFS or Indian Foreign Service belongs to another challenging central civil service of the government of India. Once a person secures the position of an IFS, he is held responsible for representing the country in the international territory. Besides, the IFS also has the responsibility of producing the government's foreign policies in its management abroad.

To clear the Indian Foreign Service Exam, one must first be eligible for the exam. Therefore, fulfilling the eligibility criteria will help you apply for the IFS exam. Here are the eligibility criteria:

1.      The candidate appearing for the IFS exam has to be either a citizen of Nepal or subject to Nepal or Bhutan. The candidate who has migrated from countries like Vietnam, Zambia, Tanzania, Pakistan, etc., can also apply for the IFS exam.



2.      The candidate should possess a degree from any recognized university or carry a graduation degree from an equivalent position.

3.      To sit for the IFS exam, a candidate needs to have some skills. The required skills for an IFS aspirant are –

·         The candidate has to have good analytical skills.

·         The candidate should be a good leader.

·         The candidate should possess excellent knowledge about current affairs and foreign affairs.

·         The candidate should have good communication skills.

·         The candidate should have the decision-making ability.

·         The candidate should be of a sound mind.

4.      The minimum age limit to sit for the IFS exam is 21 years, while the maximum age limit is 30 years. However, there are some relaxations on the ground of age. For example, the SC or ST candidates can appear till 35 years, while the OBC candidates can apply until 33 years.

5.      The maximum number of attempts for the general category and other backward candidates is 7 and 9. In contrast, there are no restrictions for scheduled castes and scheduled tribes.
