Training is provided to the candidates who qualify.

Once selected in the IFS cadre, you will be provided with training in India’s training academy in Mussoorie. The training usually ranges from about three to four months and covers a vast range of topics to ensure your overall development in the field. After this, you will be sent to the Foreign Service Institute in the capital, where you will have to undergo focused training to familiarize the candidates with different wings of the government. After completing this training, you will receive on-the-job training. It will be attached to the division of the ministry of external affairs. It will be for about six months.

Finally, you will be posted at an Indian embassy or an Indian consulate in a foreign country after completion.
