What are the subjects in UPSC

 

UPSC stands for Union Public Service Commission, which is responsible for conducting one of the most prestigious examinations in India, the Civil Services Examination. The examination is conducted to recruit candidates for various civil services like Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and Indian Foreign Service (IFS). The syllabus for the Civil Services Examination is quite extensive and covers a wide range of subjects. Here are the subjects that are included in the UPSC syllabus:


 

  1. General Studies Paper I: This paper includes subjects like Indian history, geography, economics, and polity.

  2. General Studies Paper II: This paper includes subjects like governance, international relations, and social justice.

  3. General Studies Paper III: This paper includes subjects like technology, environment, biodiversity, and disaster management.

  4. General Studies Paper IV: This paper includes subjects like ethics, integrity, and aptitude.

  5. Optional Subject Paper I: Candidates have to choose one subject from a list of optional subjects. The list includes subjects like literature, history, sociology, and philosophy.

  6. Optional Subject Paper II: This paper is the second paper of the optional subject chosen by the candidate.

Apart from these subjects, candidates have to appear for a preliminary examination, which includes two papers, and a main examination, which includes nine papers. The preliminary examination includes objective-type questions, while the main examination includes descriptive-type questions.
