In addition to the age criteria, the candidate must have a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university. Candidates who are in their final year of graduation are also eligible to apply for the exam. However, they must produce their degree certificate at the time of the Main examination.

The UPSC exam is open to candidates from all academic backgrounds. There is no specific academic stream or subject required for the exam. Candidates from any discipline, such as engineering, medicine, humanities, or social sciences, can apply for the exam.

The Preliminary examination tests the candidate’s knowledge of current events, history, geography, polity, and other general topics.
